PNG Customs gets consent

 THE PNG Customs Service’s accession was accepted to the World Customs Organisation’s Revised Kyoto Convention (RKC) and Harmonised System Convention (HSC).

Customs Commissioner Ray Paul said: “The accession is a big achievement for Customs.”

The announcement was relayed through a statement on the world body’s website.

The website statement stated that “HSC took effect in PNG as of Jan 1, 2014 while RKC took effect as of April 30. These accessions are an indication of PNG Customs’ commitment to implementing procedures tailored to the international trading environment”.

Paul said: “It now confirms that the procedures and systems we are now using are compliant with international best practice.”

He said the PNG constitutional and diplomatic requirements began in 2007 and was completed last year, which allowed accede to the RKC.

The RKC now has 92 contracting parties.
