ASIA Pacific Institute of Applied Social Economic and Technical Studies (Apiasets) can now provide quality and affordable up-skill training to government and business houses.
The institute launched its corporate and youth training programmes to the government and business organisations in Port Moresby on April 27. “We want to identify skills that working-class people know, but lack the productivity in, and train them to do their work professionally,” chairman of the institute Andick Botu said.
“Government and business organisations such as PNG Defence Force, Air Nuigini and others send their employees overseas for training and study. With the institute, agencies can send their staff to do trainings at the institute – which is not expensive compared to sending staff abroad.” Air Niugini’s safety services procedures trainer Elizabeth Talum said: “Having to send our junior cadets overseas for training is very expensive, but now with Apiasets, K70,000 compared to K300, 000 is a lot of money that we can save.”
Air Niugini trains its pilots and engineers overseas, with all other courses being in-house.
The institute comprises of four different schools which provide training and job placements: Health sciences, education, business and technical studies.
It is affiliated with University of Goroka, Aviation College Townsville, First Response Australia other internationally-recognised organisations.
National Youth Authority deputy director Dora Asera said Apiasets was a one-stop training centre and encouraged organisations to send their staff for training there.
