THE PNG Games Council will hold its first meeting of the year in Kimbe tomorrow and all members are asked to attend.

Council chairman and executive director of PNG Sports Foundation Peter Tsiamalili Jr said council members would be expected to present their teams’ financial reports for the Games’ sixth edition hosted by Morobe in 2014.

West New Britain will host the 7th PNG Games in November.

Tsiamalili said an evaluation done by an independent consultant engaged by the council at the last Games revealed that total funds raised and spent by the provinces exceeded K23 million.

“This figure needs to be confirmed by audited financial reports as the PNGSF will compile a paper on the Games for submission to the National Executive Council.

“Participation at the meeting is crucial and organisers are anticipating the attendance of all provinces as the amended Games Charter will be tabled for adoption and the host organising committee will give updates of preparations on the ground in the host province.

“Members will have the opportunity to see preparations taking place at the Games venues in Kimbe, Hoskins and other sites,” Tsiamalili said.

“Most provinces are making early preparations for this year’s Games.

“Inter-district and provincial games kicked off as early as October, with the participation and standard of competition at this year’s event expected to reach new heights.”

Meanwhile, the PNG Games secretariat is calling for provinces with outstanding affiliation fees to pay at the meeting.
