PNG graduates seek employment

A GROUP of 130 students recently graduated from Australia are looking for employment.
Office of Higher Education director general Dr William Tagis has appealed to industries, provincial governments, companies and individuals to employ the Papua New Guinean graduates.
He said the 130 students were awarded certificates after completing the technical and vocational education training skill scholarship programme .
“If industries and politicians are complaining about the lack of skills in the workforce, then OHE is now seeking industries and individuals to pick these students,” Tagis said.
He said it was an important project in achieving the Vision 2050.
It was revealed that the programme attracted almost 5,000 applicants last year and 2,000 this year and many are interested.
Tagis announced that the programme would increase its number of intakes and colleges next year.
He said so far 18 graduates had been employed.
The entry requirements for interested applicants is a “straight C grade” in year 12, required age is between 18 and 26, medical and police check and a grade point average (GPA) of more than 2.
Tagis said students under the programme had developed discipline and responsibility on their return to PNG.
