Papua New Guinea High Performance director Aaron Alsop and sports medicine manager Simon Morris have been invited to speak at the third annual PNG Physiotherapy Association (PNGPA) symposium in Madang next month.
Alsop said PNG HP wished to support the association by sharing its success with upskilling and mentoring local physios, providing opportunities for them with sports and to further their career into the field of sports physiotherapy.
“Importantly, we also provide an opportunity to expand their understanding and experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team,” Alsop said.
“Our staff work across many fields of expertise that support athletes and coaches.
“Sharing these stories with the physiotherapy community show the possibilities of where a career in PNG can take someone.”
Alsop said their recent partnership with Dr Michael Wilson, Cassandra Akiro and the Port Moresby General Hospital through the physiotherapy department was an example of how HP was working with other departments and organisations to grow local capacity and building on opportunities for more physiotherapists in PNG.
Existing partners of HP such as Sports Medicine Australia can value to the industry with education and equipment to provide top quality services to the professionals. Mercia Girey, acting secretary of PNGPA in her letter of invitation said that it was an honour and privilege to invite Alsop and Morris to participate as presenters.
“We believe that your contribution to this field is unparalleled and your inspirational talk will benefit us a lot,” Girey said.
