JAPANESE tour operators are impressed with the great potential Papua New Guinea has in the tourism industry.
Many of the visitors who came here for the first time said there was great potential in the tourism industry in the country which is not properly marketed to the outside world.
The Japanese visitors who operate hotels, travel agencies, and other businesses mainly aimed at serving tourists, said they were looking at ways to market PNG in Japan through their organisations so that more of their tourists could come and visit PNG.
“We are here to collect the valuable management information for tourism and tourism-related industries and distribute such information to our clients,” club chairman Tatsuo Hayashida said.
During a luncheon in Port Moresby yesterday, the Japanese visitors said PNG had a variety of tourism destinations to offer to international tourists with variety of places, events and activities happening in the country.
“We would like to market PNG from where we are operating and this is a great opportunity to market PNG,” Hayashida said.
PNG Tourism chief executive officer Peter Vincent, who was present with his marketing team,  said the visit by the Japanese involved in the tourism industry was a bonus for the country.
The Japanese tour group has visited Madang, Port Moresby and travelled to Rabaul yesterday before they return to Japan.
