THE Papua New Guinea Karate-do Federation (PNGKF) will host the Australasian Karate Festival.

The event will be staged at the Don Bosco Technological Institute Hall from December 5-7.

The organising committee is currently preparing the programme, venue and other logistical details of the event.

This could be the only international event prior to the 2015 Pacific Games where all PNG development squad members and the karate technical officials will have to hone their tournament skills.

Other activities such as demonstrations and musical kata will take place during the three-day festival.

However, the confirmed main competition events are Kata and Kumite.

Both events will see children  as young as eight to 18 participate in the mixed team, cadet and junior team categories.

The Australasian Karate Festival bulletin has been sent out to all countries who have been invited to participate in the event.

PNGKF president Carl Mari said the tournament would be run under the World Karate Federation rules, and for the first time electronic drawing of athletes and electronic scoring will be used.

Mairi said the deadline for individual athletes and team entries was  November 16.

For further information and lodging of entries, fighters and clubs can contact Karate development officer, Willie Leslie on mobile 72776677 or treasurer, Joseph Kubul on mobile 71690504  or email; [email protected].
