PNG-Malaysia meet agree to review information policy

THE PNG-Malaysia meeting of the joint committee on information communication and technology (JC-ICT) held in Kokopo agreed on some specific and time-bound projects.
The e-government sub-committee agreed to cooperate and review the integrated government information system (IGIS) policy, draw up terms of reference that would lead the development of a PNG “National ICT” policy and plan and to strengthen the country’s ICT governance structure.
The civil registry sub-committee agreed for a proposed flagship project to establish a comprehensive civil registry which would take approximately three and a half years to plan and implement.
This would include a strategic review and multi-vary study of the country’s civil registry system and infrastructure and the implementation and realisation of the system.
The broadcasting sub-committee agreed for Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) and NBC to cooperate and collaborate in the field of human capacity building for radio and television production.
This would be done in close consultation with the Department of Communication and Information.
The area of cooperation was agreed in principal between RTM and NBC and included short-term training in production and technical training March 2-4, in 2011.
The other is an attachment in TV programming, scheduling, digital transmission, workflow areas and familiarisation of High Definition (HD) and digital implementation also for a two to four week period in March and September next year.
