THE Papua New Guinea Men’s Basketball League is ready for start of the 2016 season on Feb 28.

The good news is that grand finalists Southern Flames and Moni Plus Tamaraws prize money was settled before the start of competition.

This prolonged delay has forced three franchises, Flames, West Jokers and Exodus to threaten to break away from the financially crippled PMBL.

Flames president Kevin Teme has disputed PMBL’s approach to them calling it unprofessional and uncalled for from a semi-professional league.

According to Teme PMBL owed his club K25,000 for winning the premiership last season but that was never presented after the grand final because PMBL were in red.

PMBL executive Lawrence Lahari said the league planned to run its competition on Friday-Sunday nights from 6pm-8pm at a venue yet to be confirmed.

“We have planned for the six current teams although there is interest out there for another franchise.

“We would like to call a meeting for all franchises on Feb 9 from 5.30pm-7pm at a venue to be advised to go through the competition and registrations.”

The executives would like the franchises to confirm in the meeting their participation and the appointment of board members.
