PNG needs more Kidus, Clarks

Letters, Normal

PAPUA New Guinea needs more Dame Carol Kidus and Helen Clark to make a big difference in the way our country is governed.
I am a great admirer of these two women who have achieved so much.
Clark has been a great leader of New Zealand and I am sure her latest role as UNDP administrator will bring about changes to our region and globally in the years to come.
Dame Kidu is also a great PNG politician.
She has made a lot of difference in PNG politics in her three terms as MP.
It would be great to see more women parliamentarians to enhance the overall quality of parliamentary debates before laws are passed.
It is a pity she will not be running for public office in 2012.
Without Dame Carol, I am concerned the Motu-Koita people may not be well represented.
The recent decision to have 22 reserved seats for women in Parliament is a step in the right direction even if it is a bit late.
PNG needs credible leaders like Dame Carol and I urge her to reconsider her decision to step down.
