PNG needs to have strong Opposition

A CANOE needs a strong and firmly fixed outrigger to  travel in open seas without capsizing.

In the same way, we need a strong Opposition in our parliamentary system to critique and stabilise the government.

Without a strong Opposition, this country will move into the trend of dictatorship and one-man-rule, with all his cronies as his puppets.

Bulolo is an active contributor towards the government’s coffers, it is collectively punished because Sam Basil is in the Opposition.

Perhaps that is why most elected MPs defect to the government, thereby weakening the Opposition.

If  PNG  is  going  to have a strong and vibrant government, we need an equally strong Opposition.

Otherwise, we might as well adopt dictatorship or presidential system of governance in PNG and see how the tribes in PNG swing their votes.
