THE country needs visionary leaders to work as a coalition to deliver basic services and development to the people, senior statesman Sir Yuwi Matiabe says.
Sir Yuwi said this week leaders must set aside political differences and have common goals for the development for all people.
He called on members of parliament to create a viable working partnership that focused on people and service delivery.
“Now I’m calling on the incoming leaders to have bigger visions for developments and they must put aside their political difference and have a common goal to ensure that development reaches the disadvantaged people,” Sir Yuwi said.
“PNG needs visionary, transparent and vibrant leaders who can deliver to the people as the election is expected to be over soon.
“In the Highlands, most of the younger generations are in the remote settings and hardly have the opportunity to a decent education and health care. Their everyday life is a struggle.
“The new government must open up major developments like a highway link from the Highlands to Gulf and make it easy for the people from the Highlands to have access to services.”
“This will give people the opportunity to move around freely and to get services likewise more developments could be seen,” he said.
He urged caretaker Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to wisely manage the country’s resources and benefits in the next five years.
“Multi-million kina projects like the LNG and other world class mines are being developed in our country.
“I urge you to live to your words and make sure you deliver for your people and this young country by bringing in much needed basic services like health, education and infrastructure developments,” he said.
