THE Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee (PNGOC) ended a workshop for its new strategic term in Port Moresby on Sunday.
The two-day workshop, facilitated by Oceania Sports Education Programme master and regional educator Andrew Lepani, was attended by the board, management and key organisational staff.
The review, which started in August, was a collaborative effort that captured inputs from national federations, PNG Sports Foundation and corporate partners.
It ensured alignment to strategic objectives of the Olympic, Commonwealth and Pacific Games movements.
PNGOC president Sir John Dawanincura opened the workshop on Saturday by highlighting the importance of planning and reflecting on the journey of the organisation over the last five years.
Participants were engaged in constructive dialogues that resulted in the formulation of a skeleton framework that would form the basis of the new strategic plan.
A general consensus was reached on the overall mission, vision, values, focus areas, key result areas, and the implementation and evaluation of the plan.
PNGOC secretary-general Auvita Rapilla stressed the importance of the review in engaging all key stakeholders as part of the process, learning from the experiences of the last five years, and the commitment by the secretariat moving forward to ensure the development and implementation of the plan.
“I am proud to say that as an organisation, we ensure that our strategic plan is a living and breathing document that we report on every quarter to our board and annually to our member national federations,” she said.
Rapilla said they always looked at the athletes to inspire and excel but it comes back to them, the administration, to play their role through this planning so that they can enable the athletes to inspire and excel.
