TWO Papua New Guinean AFL players, Jason Logi and Joseph Yamog, have been selected in the Queensland U16 team to participate in the Australian inter-state championship this year.
Logi and Yamog were among eleven other PNG U16 boys who were part of Team South Pacific that took part in the Queensland intra-state carnival in Brisbane two weeks ago.
Team South Pacific finished third overall behind Gold Coast and Brisbane North, winning two games from four.
The duo were impressive for Team South Pacific, catching the eyes of state selectors.
Logi, 15, from West New Britain and East Sepik, is a Grade 9 student at De La Salle Secondary School at Bomana outside Port Moresby.
He plays senior football on the forward flank with Lamana Dockers in the Esiloan premiership AFL competition.
Logi worked his way through the U14 Binatangs over the past three years before making it into Team South Pacific.
Yamog, from Madang, East Sepik and Manus, is a Grade 10 student at Hagen Park Secondary School and has also worked his way through the junior development programme to Team South Pacific.
The championship will be held from Saturday to July 14, with each state hosting a game.
The championship begins on the Gold Coast on Saturday, with Logi and Yamog leaving for Brisbane on Friday.
