PNG Ports Corporation Ltd (PNGPCL) will be taking part for the second year in activities to mark the 20 days of activism on the “Elimination of violence against women and girls” next week.
The corporation will launch the campaign on Nov 18 at its head office.
“The objective of the launch is to gather support and commitment from staff and as a reminder for all (especially men) to be advocates against violence toward women and girls in our communities and villages,” chief executive officer Brian Riches said in a statement.
“Last year, PNG Ports initially participated in this campaign with the aim of launching its domestic violence policy as part of its efforts to eradicate this social issue.
“The objective of this policy is to emphasise initiatives taken by PNG Ports to support this campaign to raise awareness about gender-based violence at work and demonstrate the company’s commitment to provide its employees with a safe work environment that is free from inappropriate behaviour.
“PNGPCL is committed to making a contribution to the community and Papua New Guinea by addressing social issues such as domestic violence and, in particular violence against women and girls.
“As a state-owned enterprise, we would like our action to be exemplary.”
