PNG Power asked to help probe fire

POLICE in Wau have requested PNG Power to help them investigate the cause of a fire which burnt down the Wau courthouse two weeks ago.
Wau police station commander Inspector Allan Gualin said they arrested and released a security officer who was guarding the courthouse during the fire.
They have now asked PNG Power to find out if it was caused by an electrical fault.
“Right now we are treating the cause of fire as unknown. We are not trained to investigate fires so we are waiting for the appropriate people to come and assist us with the investigation,” he said.
The courthouse caught fire in the early hours of Aug 11. Court files were destroyed.
“Aside from the building being condemned, we do not have a magistrate in Wau to hear court cases,” Gualin said.
“All suspects are transported directly to Lae because Bulolo town too does not have a magistrate.”
