PNG Power praises Lae business houses

National, Normal

PNG Power Limited’s regional manager for Momase, Watson Naso said in Lae on Monday that he was grateful that business houses have stepped in with their own power supply through generators to make up for load-shedding.
The low power supply was caused when turbines at Ramu, Yonki Hydro, Eastern Highlands, were closed down.
He said the closure allowed work to be done on the Erap sub-station to link the Hidden Valley gold mine in Wau.
Mr Waso also said the load shedding was a good opportunity for PNG Power to run its new plant at the Taraka sub-station on full throttle.
Lae experienced minimal blackouts last Saturday morning and Sunday.
The longest was on Monday for about three hours.
Other centres including Madang, Goroka, Kundiawa and Mt Hagen, which are on the electricity grid with Yonki Hydro Power station, were not affected.
