PNG Power ready to deliver reliable electricity supply during Apec
PNG Power is ready for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders’ Summit in November and will deliver reliable electricity supply as it did during previous international events, acting chief executive officer Douglas Mageo says.
Mageo told The National that PPL would use the same strategy that it had applied in the past and that was to ensure that all hotels and main meeting venues, including the International Convention Centre and APEC Haus, would be supplied by diesel-operated generators.
If there are disruptions, these hotels and meeting venues will switch automatically over to the PPL supply.
“In that way, 99 per cent power supply is guaranteed,” Mageo said.
“We’ve demonstrated during major events in the past and we are able to perform to that standard during the Apec leaders’ meeting.”
Mageo, who has been acting chief executive officer since December last year, said all the technical teams would be put on 24 hours alert in all the venues and they would be covering various hours in three shifts.
“From the experience of previous events, we just build from that so our guys have done it before and they are aware of what is required from them and they will perform to that level.
“Since the Apec meetings started, our teams have been dispatched to the main meeting venues to monitor the power supply and we anticipate no disruptions,” Mageo said.
He said there had been minimal interruption of electricity in the city and they planned on maintaining that in the next few months leading up to the leaders’ summit.
