PNG Power remains unreliable

Letters

WE are in the 21st Century and, with modern technology, PNG Power Ltd (PPL) and its current management should be improving its delivery and services instead of continuously playing the blame game to justify unreliability.
Aging equipment, high fuel cost, frequent line breakdown, etc… are the result of a complete management breakdown.
With all this, can individual provincial government build a hydro power of 2-3kva or more and sell it to PNG Power on bulk price?
Kanudi power in Port Moresby belongs to a foreign company and they are selling power on bulk price in US dollars to PPL and PPL is selling to Port Moresby customers on retail price.
PNG is blessed with rain forests and the geographical setting is good for us to set up hydro power all around. Any provincial government can build a hydro power and sell it at bulk price to PPL to boost their internal revenue.
Business houses and ordinary citizens continue to suffer and lose thousands of kina in damage.
Think out of the box. This is a survey in Wabag of PPL’s outage hours:

  • April – 199hrs power out;
  • June – 492hrs power out;
  • July – 123hrs power out;
  • August -153hrs power out;
  • September – 95hrs power out;
  • October -183hrs power out.

Terrible outage figures above. Investigate to confirm or deny.
