PNG Power Ltd (PPL) will carry out load shedding for two to three hours in Popondetta town from time to time because of generation and fuel problems, the company says.

“There are three generators supplying electricity to the township and but there is some technical faults with the generators, it said in a statement.

“Moreover, due to delay in delivery in the past few months, fuel has been rationalised and PPL is carrying out load shedding.”

Northern Governor Gary Juffa  complained about the power outages last week.

“PPL is working cooperatively with the parties involved in supplying fuel to power the generators in Popondetta,” PPL said.

“There are technical issues involved and PPL is rectifying the problem.”

“PNG Power engineers carrying out work on two other generators that have failed due to technical faults and once work is completed, electricity supply to Popondetta township should return to normal.

“Currently, only three generators with a generation capacity of 1.45 megawatts areworking but cannot meet the town’s demand of 2.3MW

“PPL apologises to customers in Oro (Northern) for any inconvenience.”
