PNG Power chief executive officer Tony Koiri has thanked Port Moresby residents for their patience over the power supply outages in recent days.
He said the public had been supportive by reporting faults and disruptions caused by the strong winds and rain.
Koiri said his staff had attended to the faults immediately and had been able to clear most areas thrown into darkness.
Last week, PPL cleared 850 of the 950 disruption calls it received and 200 of 255 easy-pay metering calls.
Some workers from non-affected centres were brought into Port Moresby to help.
He said staff often worked 16 hours a day repairing damage to power poles in the city.
Falling trees and broken tree branches on power poles caused most of the power outages.
Koiri called for residents to report criminal activities witnessed or suspected to occur on PPL maintenance workers or properties during this time.
He said there had been incidences where PPL workers had been threatened while working on faulty lines and that took up unnecessary time.
“The restoration work has been hampered by certain sections of the public where the teams were threatened and harassed by criminals.
“Often these have been witnessed by the very customers PPL is attempting to help and so local communities are encouraged to cooperate and support PPL by reporting to police any sabotage or suspicious behaviour observed,” he said.
