PNG Power Ltd has blamed vandalism to power poles and distribution lines for the recent power disruptions in Wabag, Enga.

The company said in a statement yesterday that a tree was felled onto the main power line at Kwimamanda last week cutting off power supply to the province. It was however restored the next day.

“The tree was deliberately cut and directed towards the power lines by criminals,” the statement said.

“Power poles and distribution lines along the road between Wapenamanda and Wabag town have frequently been damaged by criminals who destroy them in the same manner.

“Poles and lines are government properties. Vandalising is a criminal offence.”

The firm has urged people living along the highway to take care of the poles and distribution lines.
