PNG powerlifters leave mark in Noumea

THE Powerlifting men’s team continued the tradition of winning medals at regional competition bagging four gold medals at the Salle Serandour Hall at Monte Dore, Noumea, New Caledonia last Thursday.
Andrew Kalau beat his compatriot Kelly Hendry for the 56kg division gold medal; Masalai Wan picked up the gold in the 66kg division ahead of New Caledonia’s Karyl Le Van Ngon and Fiji Koroi Waqavakaviti.
Kenny Naime beat Fijian Emosi Baleniuku and Awana Johnson Aemoge of Nauru for gold.
Baleniuku collected the silver medal and the Nauruan walked away with the bronze medal.
On Thursday night, PNG ladies led by Meteng Wak, Linda Pulsan and Melissa Tiko brouigh more joy for Team PNG winning gold medals.
Wak collected gold ahead of Fijian Elesi Ikandirodro (silver) and Samoan Fila Fuamatu who picked up bronze in the 84kg division.
Manusian Pulsan easily won the gold in the 72kg division while Tikio collected the last gold medal of  the night in the 63kg division.
Tikio beat Lydia Tiemonhu (Samoa) for silver and the bronze went to Fiji’s Suliana Kolitagane.
