PNG’s U19 cricketers arrived in Brisbane feeling well-prepared ahead of today’s East Asia Pacific final against Vanuatu.

The Garamuts spent the past week in Darwin, playing one-day matches against India, New Zealand and Australia.

PNG national coach Peter Anderson said while they did not win a game, their performances were encouraging.

“We knew batting would be an issue because we’re a very young side but going throughout the game they certainly learnt to occupy the crease and people will appreciate that some of these guys are playing first class cricketers. One of the Indian guys played in the IPL with Chris Gayle so we’ve done a real good job. Our fielding and bowling has been probably the talk of the town. We knocked over India for 136 and had Australia and New Zealand in trouble. It’s been a fantastic experience for the guys and I’m sure they’ve taken a lot away from it,” Anderson said.
