I COMMEND the PNG Kapuls for the great effort put in their game against the New zealand All Whites in the final of the 2016 OFC Nations Cup last Saturday.
Despite losing to NZ 4-2 in the penalty shootout, our wish for a 100-minute plus football by the PNG men was realised.
They held the All Whites 0-0 in the 90 minutes and even after the extra 20 minutes added.
The Kapuls had their chances and just could not find the net.
At times it looked like PNG was really making NZ doubtful of winning this final, after almost breezing through their other games.
In the end, the whole outcome was decided by a penalty shootout which could have gone either way depending on the accuracy of the kickers and state of the goalkeeper in that after 110 minutes of physical football.
The Kapuls’ result is the best so far and PNG can be proud of their achievement.
I am sure they all know what their disadvantages were in this final and will work on those before their next meet with NZ.
The Kapuls have done very well, and we congratulate the team and the management for the excellent effort.
We hope they are planning to raise the level of their game too.
