THE United Nations Development Programme, in partnership with Post PNG Ltd, have commissioned a new stamp to promote the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit next year and sustainable development goals.
Post PNG chief executive officer Peter Tepure said this was an important partnership.
“As Apec is coming up next year and the Government plans towards an inclusive and sustainable growth for the people and the country, this partnership is part of our commitment in promoting
and making awareness of these important events and the Government’s visions and aspirations,” he said.
Tepure said the new stamp was now a product of Post PNG and would be used in all postal services.
UN resident coordinator Roy Trivedy said the stamps would try to position PNG as an emerging global leader in regards to sustainability.
“The theme for Apec is sustainable business, sustainable opportunities for all Apec countries,” he said.
“We know that Apec is the fastest-growing region in the world, but we also want to make sure that as Papua New Guinea chairs the Apec summit next year, we promote sustainable growth.
“Growth that does not compromise the environment and benefits all the people of PNG.”
Trivedy said no other country in the world had brought out a series of stamps on sustainable development goals.
“What these stamps do is signal what businesses can do with the opportunity that Apec presents.”
