PNG records 31 new cases

PAPUA New Guinea recorded 31 new Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases on Thursday, increasing the total number of cases to 17,717.
According to a statement from the National Control Centre, 16 cases were reported in Chimbu, followed by eight in Madang.
National Capital District and Morobe reported three cases each and West Sepik reported a single case.
Of the 31 cases, 14 were males and 17 females.
Their ages ranged between 52 and 59 years.
Twenty out of the 31 cases were experiencing Covid-19 symptoms at the time of testing.
The country’s Covid-19 cases now stand at 17,717 with 192 known deaths.
The total cumulative recoveries stand at 17,324.
To date, a total of 147,179 people have tested for the Covid-19.
All 22 provinces, including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, have reported cases.
The National Control Centre stated that, as of July 28, 83,122 people have received the Covid-19 vaccine.
This included 8,831 health workers, 50,819 essential workers and 23,472 persons with comorbidity.
To date, a total of 100,409 doses have been administered: 83,122 first dose; and, 17,287 second doses.
Globally, the total confirmed cases of the Covid-19 has reached 196,618,338, including 636,106 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.
The death toll stands at 4,202,435, including 6,769 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
