PNG set to host fair in Continental Europe

THE country is hosting a mini trade fair in Continental Europe for the first time since trading under the economic partnership agreement with the European Union began in 2009.
The fair is organised by the Government through the Embassy of PNG in Brussels, in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs and the National Fisheries Authority (NFA).
The fair targets selected consumers, traders, investors and partners such as the EU and ACP member states. Products including coffee, Queen Emma chocolate, canned tuna, clothing and tourism, and investment promotional materials are on display.
PNG’s Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union Joshua Kalinoe said the fair was part of the embassy’s work programme to promote the economic dimension of its work.
“The embassy’s role is also to promote PNG’s trade and economic interests and we are happy to be part of the PNG team comprising both Government agencies and the private sector to facilitate the trade fair,” he said.
Kalinoe said the NFA had been taking part in the Belgium fishery exposition in past years and the embassy organised the trade fair this year.
“It is hoped that we will continue to make this an annual event, and that more agencies of Government including the Investment Promotion Authority, Tourism Promotion Authority and the Agriculture Commodity Boards will participate,” he said.
The trade fair started on Monday and will end on Friday.
