YOUNG Papua New Guinea female squash player Lynnette Vai stamped her authority at a recent Oceania Junior Titles in Melbourne, winning the event in spectacular style.
The event incorporating the 2012 Victorian Junior Squash Open Titles was held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre before the Victorian Squash Open Titles last weekend.
Vai, participating in the Girls U15s event, won the event comfortably and no doubt she would be a force to be reckoned with.
Despite the lack of facilities and local competitions, it was a real test in getting the young 13-year-old ready for the event.  However, the top seed eased through her early rounds defeating Victorian Belle Reid 11-2, 11-3, 11-2 and Danielle Kun 11-1, 11-3, 11-2 respectively.
The finals saw Vai face New Caledonia’s Claire Faucompre and possibly a formidable opponent in years to come.
The match saw Vai dominating and taking out the first two games 11-4, 11-3.
The final game was a battle of wits between the two players as every point was a hard-fought struggle which could have easily gone either way.
However, it was a huge sigh of relief for Vai to win the final 14-12.
