PNG students stranded in the Philippines

Letters

AS a Papua New Guinean who has seen the plight of our students in Philippines, I can’t believe how our Government is responding to their cries.
It has been nine months since the Covid-19 outbreak and the closing down of countries to control the spread of the pandemic has left many people stranded.
All countries have airlifted their citizens and to the good fortune of those stranded in China, Australia and New Zealand have come to their aid.
Our students in the Philippines are being ignored and left to fend for themselves.
Promised repatriation flights have been cancelled.
The students have already wasted their much-needed funds for Covid-19 tests.
I have been accommodating four students for the last four months.
I cannot believe the fact that our leaders are turning a blind eye on our own citizens overseas.
This is not the time to point fingers and blame students for not being responsible for their own situation.
This is a time the Government and leaders displayed true leadership by doing the right thing.
Get off your high pedestal and start helping your fellow citizens.
