A Papua New Guinea delegation led by Health Minister Jamie Maxtone-Graham will travel to Cuba to formalise an agreement for medical students to study there, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill announced.
He was accompanied on his trip to the United Nations general assembly by Maxtone-Graham and National Planning Minister Sam Basil.
He said the two ministers had talks with their counterparts on bilateral and multi-lateral issues.
“Cuba is one of the world leaders in health care and Papua New Guinea is discussing the possibility of sending students to Cuba to study medicine,” O’Neill said.
“The minister (Maxtone-Graham) will travel there to formalise the treaties for PNG students to study medicine.”
There had been previous attempts made for Cuban doctors to come to PNG.
