PNG swimmers fail to impress at the pool

PAPUA New Guinea swimmers also failed to impress at the pool in the opening day when  most did not qualify in their heats.
Kevin Pryke, Peter Pokawin, Anna Lisa Mopio-Jane, Judith Meauri and 4×100 freestyle team did not advance to next stage of their competition after their heats.
Pryke finished fourth in the 50m breastroke in 31.98 while Pokawin finished eighth in his heat in 30.06.
Australian-based swimmer Mopio-Jane finished seventh in her heat of 200m freestyle in 2:10.62 and Meauri clocked 31.91 in the 50m butterfly while 4x100m relay team finished 3:50.11.
In weightlifting, Kathleen Hare was out after failing all three attempts at 85kg.
Attempts to contact or verify the results with Team PNG general manager John Susuve and chef de mission Tamzin Wardley were unsuccessful last night.
