PAPUA New Guinea has tightened its security operations in line with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooporation (Apec) meetings which began on Saturday.
Chief Secretary Isaac Lupari, pictured, said the country was providing the “best land, air and sea security” for its visitors.
“We will have 70 meetings to host in the first SOM (senior officials meetings) meeting, and we have security surveillance from the land, air and maritime operations,” Lupari said.
He said security operations would be chaired by Col Opa Lari with support from Papua New Guinea’s partner countries.
“We are ready to host the Apec meetings,” Lupari said.
Apec PNG coordination authority chief executive Christopher Hawkins said it would be easier to navigate the security operations for Apec as the country had a smaller city with a smaller road network to cover.
“Compared with other countries, where there are a lot of road networks and lots of high rise building, the country’s smaller city has ensured that security for our visitors can be properly navigated,” he said.
A security update for Apec meetings will be held this week.
