THE Papua New Guinean team to the 2009 Miss South Pacific Pageant in Suva, Fiji will be submitting PNG’s first ever bid to host the prestigious event in Port Moresby next year.
The PNG Tourism Promotion Authority will be supporting the team in submitting the bid at the event which will run from Nov 22 to 28.
Miss PNG 2009 Antonia Singut will represent the country at the event.
This will be the first time for PNG to participate after an eight year absence since 2001 when the then crowned Miss PNG Olivia Wilson took part.
In show of support for PNG’s participation at the pageant, Hugo Canning Company Ltd last Friday presented a cheque for K15,000 to Ms Singut and Miss South Pacific Pageant PNG board member; Dadi Toka Jnr.
Hugo Canning has been very supportive of the Miss PNG Charity quest since last year sponsoring an entrant, Bridgette Wase, who won the title of Miss Charity Queen 2009 and was also Miss PNG first runner-up.
In presenting the cheque, Hugo Canning’s general manager David Slape told the recipients that the company was delighted to be one of the major sponsors of the PNG team to the pageant.
He said they were very supportive and proud to be part of the Miss South Pacific pageant and wished Ms Singut all the best.
Ms Singut is looking forward to the event and is confident she will do well against other South Pacific Island competitors.
