Hollywood will soon be recording films in Papua New Guinea, Minister for Tourism Arts and Culture Boka Kondra says.

He revealed that in a meeting with Australian High Commissioner to PNG Deborah Stokes.

Kondra said he would soon be travelling to Hollywood to sign a contract to grant permission for films to be shot in the country.

Kondra told Stokes, he was planning on reviving PNG’s commercial film and music industry.

“In this regard, I wish to request the support of Screen Australia to work with the PNG National Film Institute and help us revive our commercial film industry,” Kondra told Stokes.

“In addition, I wish to request the support of Australasian Performing Rights Association Ltd to help train on a regular basis the growing number of PNG nationals who are writer members of the association.

“It will be a new experience for us to sign a contract with Hollywood to come and work with us to produce films in the country. But I believe the film and music industries are very important and as long as I am in office, I will support the two industries,” he said.  He said he was waiting for approval from the National Executive Council to travel. “We have a lot of talent here for the music and film industries.”
