PAPUA New Guinea rugby league “exports” Michael Mark, Charlie Wabo and Nico Slain have signed for another season with Hunslet Hawks RLFC in England.
The club have announced on their web page that “they were pleased to announce that they had managed to keep hold of their three star Papua New Guinea Internationals for next season”.
Director of the Championship leagues club, Darren Williams, said Mark, Wabo and Slain put pen to paper last Thursday on new one-year deals.
All three will fly home this month to take part in PNG’s international trials and will return to the UK in January.
“It’s great news that the trio will return to Hawks next season. They have brought a different culture to the club and fans, team members and sponsors have bought into the concept they bring to the club,” Williams said.
He said Mark had been an outstanding success and had proved to be a real cult hero with the supporters.
“Nico and Charlie have both suffered frustrating seasons with various injuries but will both return fit and raring to go and I am sure we will see their real qualities as they now know what to expect, when they return for their second season with the club.”
Slain said he owed the club his life and will return fit next season with a desire in his heart to repay the faith the club had shown in getting him over this injury.
