PNG has the potential to grow like Singapore if it has godly leaders, a visiting pastor from Singapore said.

“Singapore had absolutely no resources. It is an island state with nothing to its name,” president and pastor of Shalom Singapore Dr George Annadorai said.

Annadorai was speaking at a business and political leadership conference hosted by the Assembly of God Cornerstone Gateway church in partnership with Christian indigenous business and marketplace people in Port Moresby on Tuesday.

“Papua New Guinea has a total land area of 462,840sq km while we only have 710sq km of land,” he said.

“How can a nation like (Singapore) survive? Well, we have two sides to our success story – a physical side (history) that everyone knows about and a spiritual side that the world is not familiar with.

“We had leaders who called themselves ‘men in white’ as they always wear white clothing.

“White represents righteousness and purity. It leaves no ground for corruption. And that was what our leaders stood for.

“They were committed to the nation and not themselves.

“This is why from 1965 to 2005, we rose from a third world status to a first world status. We were called a miracle nation.

“When we gained independence from Britain on Aug 9 1965, we were thrown out like an orphan.

“Our founding father went from one country to the next, seeking assistance but no one wanted to incur the wrath of the mighty British Empire.

“Israel bravely stepped in to help us. And this is where the spiritual side of our story comes in.

“Israel is a country chosen by God and when we were linked together, blessing from Heaven flowed through them and into Singapore.”
