NCDC Social Services manager Kila Dick expressed his disappointment that the finals of the volleyball championships would not be played at the Sir John Guise Indoor Complex.
Instead all finals including the open men’s, open women’s and U21 boys and girls will be played at the Taurama Leisure Centre (TLC).
Dick, who is also a committee member on the PNG Volleyball Federation board, made the comments after receiving a negative response from PNG Sports Foundation for the hire of the Indoor Complex.
“We are disappointed that the PNG Sports foundation would not let us use the indoor complex for the finals.
“We advised the CEO Iamo Launa three weeks ago but she did not reply instead verbally told us through John Paliau, who I think is the facility coordinator, that renovations are currently being done at the complex.
“Nevertheless we are not downhearted and accept the decision,” he said.
Dick also confirmed there would be no opening ceremony but the NCD Governor Powes Parkop would attend an official service and declare the national championships open.
“Because of time factor we have decided to just have an official service at TLC because it would be a logistical nightmare to have to move all the teams from one venue to TLC for the opening.
“We will have 20 teams at TLC witnessing the official service,” Dick said.
Meanwhile, a meeting for technical officials and team managers was held at the Shady Rest Hotel yesterday to hand out the championships draws and discuss other important agendas.
The championships will commence today and end on Sunday with the finals.
