WATER PNG customers nationwide owe the entity K48 million in unpaid bills, says customer services manager Leo Kre.
Kre said that of the 3629 customers in Madang, 441 would be issued with demand letters to pay up within 14 days and those who fail to do so would be taken to court as part of the debt recovery process.
Kugl said customers with outstanding bills of between K150 and K9999 and did not make payments within 90 days after receiving warning notices would be summoned to appear in the magistrates court. Customers who owe K10,000 or more would be summoned to appear at the national court. “The government is not funding us anymore and we now rely on customer payments,” he said.
He said all types of customers owe Water PNG money – government entities, institutions, commercials and industries and high-covenant and low-covenant domestic customers.
Kre said a similar campaign in Kokopo was successful.
He said Water PNG first targeted Kokopo, then Lae and now Madang. It will move on to Mt Hagen next.
Agavi said customers can talk to Water PNG to make payment arrangements.
