PNG worse off after gaining independence

The National, Thursday 07th February, 2013

I AM disappointed that  we have become worse off today after gaining independence on Sept 16,1975.
After that achievement, many of the vital infrastructure and facilities that were provided to the rural population collapsed.
Where did all the millions of kina generated  from our natural resources go to?
We have world-class gold mines, oil and gas fields, logging, fishing, agriculture, etc, generating billions of kina, yet there is nothing tangible to see.
Our national budgets increased over the years.
We have been taxed more than what is supposed to be taxed in a developing country, yet our living standards remain poor, if not worse.
There is no account for all the monies paid out.
Leaders, before you preach about your record budgets and development plans, can you tell the people of PNG what you will do differently from previous governments?
We are interested to know how billions of kina have been spent and when those who have been implicated in so many commissions of inquiry will be prosecuted.
Only then, will the people truly believe in the government.
