PNGDF holds ‘informal’ talks with security firm

G4S, the world’s biggest security company, has admitted that it had been in discussions with the PNG Defence Force (PNGDF).
However, it denied that the discussions involved a possible amalgamation between G4S and the PNGDF.
The company said the discussions they held related to the possibility of G4S using spare space on defence land for their training needs.
They were seeking a standard commercial arrangement.
“It must be emphasised that what took place were a series of informal discussions and no formal proposal was ever produced by G4S,” the company said.
It said the discussions never progressed beyond the concept stage.
It said both G4S and the PNGDF had agreed that the proposed cooperation and sharing of facilities was not feasible at this point of time, and had amicably agreed not to proceed further.
“Whilst G4S has the utmost respect for the PNGDF and remains open to any requests for future cooperation, this particular project no longer forms part of our plans going forward.”
