PNGDF needs more resources

Letters

THE PNG Defence Force are our national pride and are tasked to protect our national security. In a state of emergency, serious conflict, and other situations, the Government deploys the PNGDF. However, the government does not invest enough in PNGDF therefore it lacks many resources.
As a sovereign nation and the biggest Pacific island with abundant natural resources, PNGDF should have enough man power, planes, boats, helicopters, armored vehicles and other operating resources by now.
We got independence in 1975, which means we are capable and we can run our own national affairs.
We cannot run to Australia for military assistance every time.
Illegal activities are on the rise because we don’t have the military capacity to combat them.
PNG needs to stand as a nation of its own by increasing its military strength and power as a leader in the Pacific.
We still lack manpower and equipment and that’s something the Government should address.
