THE Papua New Guinea Defence Force’s operations in the cholera and dysentery outbreak have been codenamed Unamaisa.
Unamaisa is Jabem for “you help me”.
The codename was revealed at a meeting between the PNG Defence and the Morobe provincial cholera task force late yesterday.
The meeting was held to discuss the need to fast-track operations to stop the cholera and dysentery outbreak in Lae and Wasu, and Menyamya respectively.
PNGDF has been assigned to supply logistical support from its aircraft and its medical personnel.
So far, PNGDF Joint Task Force commander Major Ivan Timo said the team in Menyamya was only assisting the health staff with existing medical supplies as their medical supplies were not transported due to damage to the Arava aircraft.
He, however, said Menyamya and Wasu had adequate medical supplies.
