PAPUA New Guinea Defence Force personnel in Port Moresby have made a commitment to put God first in their call of duty to serve the Queen and country.

They were challenged to align themselves and walk before God in their career.

PNGDF Commander Brigadier General Gilbert Toropo branch heads, directors and unit commanding officers pledged their honour to serve God, the Queen and country at a 2016 dedication service last Friday.

The service at the St Martin Anglican Church at 5-Mile was attended by more than 100 soldiers led PNGDF Chaplain Lieutenant-Colonel Misael Baude.

Baude quoted scriptures from Genesis 1:17 to encourage them to take heed of God’s instructions to Abraham to walk before God and be blameless from all wrongdoings.

Baude told the soldiers to first and foremost foster a perfect relationship with God so that they make the right decisions and do the right thing.

Toropo said the Word of God was very important to all Papua New Guineans. He said that the Word of God penetrated the most stubborn and remotest parts of the country where civilisation was not yet known.

He said PNG was where it was today because of the first missionaries who introduced the Bible.

“As a Christian country, we should put God first in our lives and work because He is the foundation of our country,” Toropo said. “The visions and priorities of the force can only be achieved if we put God first through unity starting from all PNGDF branch heads down to directors and down.”

He thanked the Australian and New Zealand defence forces for their assistance and urged his troops to make an extra effort this year to move the PNGDF forward.
