PNGFA looking to make submission for the return of spectators
THE Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) will be making a submission to the National Control Centre (NCC) to allow spectators to attend National Soccer League (NSL) matches, says an official.
PNGFA competitions director Roosje Suwae said they decided that it was wise to start season behind closed doors before working on the return of spectators, given NCC’s coronavirus (Covid-19) restrictions and requirements.
“We don’t have any spectators yet but as the games go by, we will put in a submission through the Office of the National Pandemic Response Controller for the return of spectators,” she said.
“We have to make sure (to abide by) all the restrictions and try as much as possible to be like the PNG National Rugby League Competition (PNGNRLC) which now has spectators.
“It’s wise to just start the games first and then work on the return of spectators but we would like to have spectators maybe in the next couple of weeks.”
Meanwhile, NCC quarantine and monitoring manager Dr Gideon Kendino had told The National earlier that the NSL would have to send a formal submission to the controller’s office for an official response.
Suwae told The National yesterday that they had to meet the controller’s requirements, especially ensuring that Covid-19 protocols — including social distancing — are followed.
“After all of that is in place then we’ll make a submission,” she said.
