PNGFA prepare teams for major events on calendar

PNG Football Association has begun the year preparing representative teams for various regional and international tournaments.
The women’s team left last Sunday for their lead-up matches in Australia before departing for the Olympic qualifiers in Tonga.
Selections have also been made during the national soccer league for the U20 Olympic qualifiers in Taupo, New Zealand.
Twenty players have been selected for the event. The squad will be accompanied by five officials. They will be leaving on March 12.
The current team is a strong set of players blended with talent and skills. The Olympic Qualifiers will be held in Taupo, New Zealand from March 16-25.
PNG is among seven nations including American Samoa, Fiji, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu. The finals will be held after the group stages with the winners advancing to represent the Oceania region at the Olympic football tournament in London from July 26 to Aug 11.
The team: Roland Warisan, Joey Kala (goalkeepers) Roland Bala, Lee Wabing, Daniel Joe, Kila Polena, Japath Tiampo, Peter Yang (defenders), Eliud Fugre, Emmanuel Simon, Wilson Giasuau, Nigel Dabinyaba, Max Sengum, Wira Wama, Amon Meki (midfielders), Jamal Seeto, Alwin Komolong, Lap Embel, Vanya Malagian and Ronald Sohuru (strikers).
The head coach is former Australian Socceroo Frank Farina, assistant coach is Wesley Waiwai, team manager is Stanley Khana and assistant manager is Bob Morris.
The tournament starts on March 16-24.
