PNGRFL conducts coaching clinic

THREE women are among 36 participants at the New Ireland referees and coaching clinics in Kavieng being run by PNG Rugby Football League’s Team Kumuls programme.
The two-day clinic started last Tuesday attracted Sallyanne Tiplas and Lyle Alickson, who are involved in the coaching sessions supervised by national development manager Toksy Nema, a top PNG coach.
Pinni Seth from Rawal Warriors Women’s Rugby League, has been involved in the course at the invitation of referees director Joe Peregua, with the roll-out programme to extend to Kokopo for East New Britain Province.
New Ireland has produced its fair of Kumuls in the past with players like Allan Rero, John Yip, Yanga Pilakos and Ngala Lapan, Aquila Emil and Kungus Kuveu, both of whom have since passed away.
This week, the programme will extend to West New Britain
Dates for the Autonomous Region of Bougainville are still to be confirmed.
PNGRFL director for NGI Horta Boskey said this would be the initial stages of the roll-out with follow-up courses crucial to keep the development programme process in motion as they advance in the accreditation levels.
Boskey used the opportunity to explain the structure of PNGRFL and the roles and responsibilities.
He thanked the sponsors of the Team Kumuls programme for making the it possible.
Nema said his programme covered the basics of coaching to reinforce the techniques of the game.
The programme was carried out in Daru last week with Milne Bay, Oro, Central, Gulf and National Capital District set to follow.
