PNGRFU must clarify its plans for the code
The National, Monday February 16th, 2015
I AM very happy to know that the PNG Rugby Football Union (PNGRFU) is conducting its business in an open and transparent manner.
Their recent annual general meeting in Wabag of Enga shows very clearly to the people of PNG, sponsors and various stakeholders that the game of rugby league is in good hands and has a bright future.
I would like to raise a few points that PNGRFU needs to clarify:
- Why can the PNGRFU not provide its financial statements of its operations (audit report) as well as its strategic plans to all affiliated unions?
- Why do we not use provincial and regional tournaments anymore to select our National 15s representative team (Pukpuks)?
- Why is it that the PNGRFU does not have rugby development officers stationed in each region?
- Why have all other sporting codes in PNG advanced to a semi-professional level, but not the rugby union?
- Where is this code heading?
For far too long, this wonderful game has been neglected to rot simply because the people high up in the hierarchy of PNGRFU have shown no direction in taking this game forward to the next level.
Many of our top talents have moved on to greener pastures or switched leagues as there is nothing happening for the rugby union in this country.
We are on the eve of the Pacific Games and lots of funds have been poured into preparing the Sevens Team to be competitive.
PNGRFU must come out clearly and respond to my queries.
