An Australian academic has told graduating students of the IBS University in Port Moresby that they carry the future of Papua New Guinea in their hands.
“Come tomorrow, the great responsibility will fall upon you and that responsibility is the future of PNG,” Kit Bennets, of Southern Cross University in Australia, told IBSU graduates on Thursday.
Eight graduates studied bachelor’s programmes in business and information technology of Southern Cross University which were facilitated by IBSU at its 11-Mile campus outside Port Moresby.
“When you forget the many things you learnt at school or at university, what remains is education,” Bennets said.
“It’s important to note that what you are is education.
“No matter where you go, no matter what you do, that can never be taken away from you.
“You will always have your education, and for that I congratulate you.”
IBSU vice-chancellor Edward Silva said students were not only taught the courses offered but values as well.
“We also educate students about the eight values of IBS University,” he said. “Students and employees of IBSU are guided by values of integrity, innovativeness, excellence, accountability, responsiveness, collaboration, respect and service.
“When children walk out of this university, they will walk out with values to become responsible leaders.”
Graduate Kimberly Banda, who received her Bachelor in Business Management degree, majoring human resource management, said her years of study at IBSU had helped her to be positive and responsible.
