Ian Chow and his deputy John Kapi Natto now head the new Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation board, with four members announced at the Rita Flynn Indoor Complex in Port Moresby on Friday.
The members are Leon Buskens, Ni Cragnolini, Julianne Leka Maliaki and Nathaniel Ho.
Chairman Chow, who succeeds Graham Osborne, will lead the foundation for the next five years. They were sworn in by Magistrate Ernest Wilmott and witnessed by Sports Vice-Minister Wesley Raminai and PNGSF executive director Peter Tsiamalili Jr.
Raminai said the sports development plan for the next five years was under review.
“This will guide and ensure that the plan is effectively implemented in the country,” he said.
Raminai said the review would benefit all the centres across the country.
He commended Osborne for being at the helm during the 2015 Pacific Games, Fifa U20 Women’s World Cup and 2017 Rugby League World Cup.
“This will challenge the new board to bring the foundation to the next level,” Raminai said.
Chow said corporate support was essential in the development of sports in the country.
“We cannot rely on the Government as they have other priority areas such as education and health,” Chow said.
Tsiamalili said he was looking forward to working with the new board.
“Despite facing challenges, we’ve maintained confidence to overcome and manage them,” he said.
